The time for festivities has arrived and if you are planning any Christmas nights out we have plenty on offer, including many special events and shows. If you are after quieter activities then take part in our many craft events from making Christmas cards to learning watercolour techniques. Watch the changing of the seasons with our cycle rides or walks through the green spaces the borough has to offer. So take part, and have fun.

► Isherwood at the Turnpike
James Lawrence Isherwood (1917 - 1989) is to Wigan what L.S. Lowry is to Salford; a painter of a provincial town and its people who has become increasingly acknowledged since his death. A charismatic, imposing, mysterious figure draped in a cloak and sporting a beret he would have, perhaps, gone unnoticed in the Parisian art underground of the early 20th Century. However, Isherwood's backdrop wasn’t the Champs-Élysées but the cobbled streets of a northern British coal town in the 1970s.
• The exhibition opens on the 7th November. Admission is free.
